Rémi is Appointed as Lecturer at L’Orientale University, Naples
We are delighted to announce that Rémi Dewière, post-doc on our project, has been hired as Lecturer at L'Orientale University in Naples, in the Department of Asian, African and Mediterranean Studies (DAAM).
L'Orientale has a long tradition that began with the founding of the Chinese College by Matteo Ripa and its recognition by Pope Clement XII in 1732. It was the first institution to teach the languages and cultures of India and China in Europe. Throughout its history, the school has taken on different names until it finally became the University of Naples "L'Orientale".
Rémi will be joining a department specialising in Islamic and African studies, with unique expertise in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Somali, Hausa, Swahili, Ge'ez, Amharic and Berber languages and literature, Sudanese linguistics, Chadic and ancient Egyptian. These linguistic specialisms are compliment a number of other disciplines, such as the history of the Middle East and Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, Egyptology, the history of Ethiopia and Eritrea, Nubian antiquities, and Egyptian archaeology.
We are sad to see Rémi go and will really miss him during our meetings. But we are proud of, and happy for him to have obtained such a prestigious post. And best of all: he remains an associate fellow of our project and will continue to work and publish with us.
